TOP STORY: Chelsea want Raphael Varane, John Stones to replace John Terry
Chelsea’s “captain, leader, legend” may soon have to settle for simply being a legend of the club, with the Mail reporting that John Terry is fearing for his Stamford Bridge future after the Premier League champions made an enquiry about Real Madrid centre-back Raphael Varane.
The Blues’ captain is said to be unfazed by recent doubts over his performances, but will be worried should manager Jose Mourinho decide to bench him against West Brom on Sunday — particularly given the Portuguese coach’s long-standing interest in France international Varane.
As if that wasn’t enough for Terry, there’s another John in Mourinho’s sights: Everton’s John Stones has had his head truly turned by Chelsea this summer, and the Mirror reports that the centre-back will appeal to Toffees chairman Bill Kenwright to let him leave Goodison Park for Stamford Bridge.
The 21-year-old England international is seen as a long-term replacement for Terry, and Chelsea will reportedly make one final bid of £36 million for the youngster after seeing their first three bids rejected out of hand.
