THIERRY HENRY, an undoubted Premier League legend, paid tribute to fellow French export Anthony Martial after the teenager scored a stunning debut goal for Manchester United against Liverpool. And the internet went into overdrive with comparisons of the two Frenchmen.
Martial came off the bench in the 65th minute and left his mark on the Old Trafford crowd with a mazy dribble and silky finish past Simon Mignolet. The goal bore all the hallmarks of Henry in his prime with Arsenal and France.
“He [Martial] stayed composed,” Henry said. “I call it ‘freezing the keeper’ and he puts the ball in.
“I loved the finish. It’s a great finish. What a way to announce yourself.”
Martial shares a hometown with the Arsenal legend, and now the comparisons are complete… thanks to a goal that looked every bit as though Henry himself had scored it.
It lit up Old Trafford with their fans crying for a new hero and Martial looks like being the real deal, even though he is carrying an eventual price tag of £58 million as the costliest teenager in football history.
