Manchester United’s boss Louis van Gaal has
highlighted that the club could make do with a
marquee signing before the transfer window
closes next week, with Thomas Muller and Gareth
Bale targeted. However, an exit for one of the
unwanted player of the club is imminent.
The Red Devils have reached an agreement with
Besiktas over the transfer of Spanish goalkeeper
Victor Valdes, Sky Sports understand.
As per Football Arena journalist Ertan Suzgun via
Squawka, the Super Lig 1 outfit have agreed to
sign the Spaniard on a two-year deal with an
option for a third, during which Valdes will earn
€2m per season.
Althought United and the Turkish club have
settled on a transfer for Valdes, manager of
Besiktas Senol Gunes still has to make his own
decision. A former goalkeeeper himself, Senol will
have to decide on whether he wants the Spaniard
and negotiations over personal terms will take
place if the manager does.
Sky Sports say Besiktas sold their reserve goalie
to bitter rivals Galatasaray on Tuesday and that
has freed up a space in their squad for a player in
the goalkeeper position. It is believed a move
looks very likely to happen and Valdes, 33, will
end his miserable spell at Old Trafford.
The former Barcelona icon was offered the chance
to train at Man United last October by van Gaal
as he recovered from a knee injury. Thereafter, he
signed an 18-month deal with the Red Devils.
He would go on to make only two appearances
for the team last season and was left out of
United’s pre-season tour squad, with the Dutch
manager saying the Spanish goalie does not
follow the club’s philosophy because he refused
to play for the Red Devils’ Under-21.
The arrival of Sergio Romero in the United goal
finally signified that Valdes is out of favour and
he is now expected to dislodge Zolga Tengin to
become the first-choice at Besiktas, if the move is
completed.
Meanwhile, Valdes’ compatriot David De Gea is
also facing an uncertain future at Old Trafford
following an interest from Spanish giants Real
Madrid. Although van Gaal has stated United
would not sell the goalkeeper, it is still likely De
Gea – who has been replaced by Romero this
season – will join Los Blancos before September
2.
