Chelsea and Man United told to cough up £70m for Zenit St Petersburg lynchpin Axel Witsel
Zenit St Petersburg have slapped a £70m release clause on star man Axel Witsel to ward off interest from Tottenham, Chelsea and Manchester United.
The Belgian international is one of the most sought after talents in European football and a host of clubs are vying for his signature.
But Zenit are adamant the powerful midfielder will remain in Russia despite the 26-year-old revealing he has held talks with AC Milan and an unnamed Premier League side.
Zenit boss Andre Vilas-Boas has met with Witsel to discuss his future and now the club’s hierarchy have stepped in to ensure the former Benfica star stays at the Petrovsky Stadium.
“We have repeatedly said that he has a release clause and it is worth €100m (£70m),” a club statement released through news agency TASS confirmed.
