Manchester United have been poor in the final third of recent, and are keen to get a proven forward once the Summer transfer window opens next year. The Red Devils have identified former Bayern Munich striker, Mario Gomez as a transfer target, and will be hoping to reunite the ex-Germany international with his former boss at the Old Trafford. Louis Van Gaal was Gomez’s coach at the Allianz Arena and they had a good working relationship together. Having been accustomed to the philosophy of the Dutchman, the 30 year-old would immediately settle into the team if he is acquired.
The Fiorentina forward who is currently at Turkey with Besiktas on a season-loan has found back his rhythm as he has obviously settled well into the Turkish Super Lig side. Gomez currently leads the League highest goal scorer charts alongside Antalyaspor’s Samuel Eto’o with 9 in 11 games thus far. The 6ft plus lethal finisher is an established forward having proven himself as one of Europe’s finest forwards in the last decade. Netting 75 goals in 115 Bundesliga matches and 25 strikes in 60 international games for Germany, Gomez no doubt fits well into a Manchester United number 9 role.
United have been short of strikers since the departure of Radamel Falcao, Robin van Persie and Javier Hernandez during the Summer, and would no doubt be helped with a Gomez. Anthony Martial was brought in during the Summer as a replacement striker but has since been converted to a winger. Juan Mata is United’s top scorer with 4 goals, and
Mario Gomez who has hit the target with 75% of all his attempts on goal this season would be a perfect signing, especially due to his ability to score with both legs and his head.
